Rather than every match being a standard affair, each has its own conditions that need to be met. It’s a heart-warming tale of adversity and never giving up on your dreams, regardless of how many mountains you need to climb. The Return of Daniel Bryan puts players in his boots, as an unknown wrestler facing John Cena on Velocity, to his second release for going off-script (read: choking an announcer), all the way to his world title wins and, as the name of the mode suggest, his return after being given the all-clear from the doctors. Fans were heartbroken when Bryan, having been released twice and suffering numerous injuries, was forced to retire before his time. This year’s Showcase mode centres around Daniel Bryan and is easily the most relevant mode we’ve seen in the series to date. In that way, it’s just like the real thing. It’s charming, engaging, and often times daft. While the list of new additions are just enough to fill a sheet of toilet paper, that’s okay, because instead 2K has opted to focus on the most important F-word in gaming: Fun. Matt was pissed off at how long everything took, even snapping at Shaundi at times, but Shaundi knew he was just in a bad mood and didn't think much of it. This allows for more role playing mechanics to brought into the fray as upgrades are persistent across all campaigns, encouraging players to find a play style they are comfortable with and developing their Home City in this direction. The Home City functions as a second disconnected city in the game, almost like an imperialistic nation looking out for a budding colony. While the core of the game remains intact from Age of Empires II, the addition of the Home City significantly changes the entire surrounding package. A dense single-player campaign is split into three acts spanning three generations of the fictional Black family. The franchise as a whole is thrust forward in history from Age of Empires II by several hundred years making good use of the new time period. This main change modifies the stock RTS mechanics, introducing some more features akin to Role Playing Games. Each civilization's Home City has an unique bonus that changes the way each one is played. Several innovations are introduced to the franchise's mainstay pillars, most significantly with the addition of the Home City.
